A Short Introduction to Dementia: Early Signs, Types, and Meaningful Communication
Dementia touches more lives than many realise—someone is diagnosed every 3 seconds. That could be a relative, a friend, a client, or someone you work alongside.
May is Dementia Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to deepen our understanding of this condition. Did you know that in the UK, nearly one million people are living with dementia, including over 70,000 with young-onset dementia (where symptoms develop before the age of 65). Many of these individuals remain in some form of employment, while thousands more continue working while caring for someone with dementia.
We are delighted to be welcoming Fiona Mahoney, CEO and Occupational Therapist at Reminiscence Learning, to join our meeting to share practical advice and real-world knowledge on navigating dementia with confidence and compassion.
This session will explore:
- how to recognise early symptoms
- understand the different types of dementia
- develop communication approaches that truly help.
Whether dementia has already affected someone you know or you’d like to be better prepared for the future, Fiona’s insights will be invaluable both professionally and personally.
