Somerset Ladies in Business Networking – Friday 26th April 2024

Reducing the stress of managing your organisation #LittleByLittle.

We are delighted to be welcoming James Wade from Accounts Projects to give us our presentation this month. April 2024 is Stress Awareness Month, with the theme “Little by Little, a Little Becomes a Lot” highlighting the transformative impact of consistent, small positive actions on overall well-being.

The responsibility of being an owner, a trustee or a senior decision-maker in a business or charity can weigh heavily. A lucky few may seem to breeze through their working life brimming with confidence, demonstrating endless productivity, and garnering adulation and awards. For most of us though, balancing work life and home life is tricky, giving us a sense that we could be more effective, but we don’t always know where to begin.

So, if this is becoming a source of stress, what can we do about it? Well, gathering together to share our collective experiences and support each other is a great start. But, can we be more specific? How can we make the details of our work better #LittleByLittle?

  • If we’re already using software, are we making the most of everything it can do, or is new software emerging that could complement or replace it? Have we adopted ways of working alongside or instead of software that aren’t as efficient as they could be?
  • If we’re keeping financial records, are they up to date and accurate enough to help us understand the position and performance of our business? Can we convert the necessary evil of bookkeeping obligations into a positive activity that aids decision-making and allows us to be proactive instead of reactive?
  • If we’re juggling a collection of roles, can we step back and work out which are the ones that play to our strengths? Could we share those that don’t by collaborating with someone who thrives on our unwanted tasks, leaving us to gain the rewards and satisfaction from our preferred tasks?

After five years as a stay at home dad, James returned to the workplace in 2011. He trained as an accountant, qualifying in 2016 and continuing to gain experience with Albert Goodman. James has now established Accounts Projects, offering systems accountancy to local businesses and charities.

Make April 2024 the month when you finally make time for your own wellbeing and start taking small positive actions!Accounts Projects at Somerset lad
